The Cyclone episode - day 1!

The chennai Weather has taken a turn for the worse with all indications pointing out to a Cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal. Normally , the Chennai roads are not much to talk about with all sorts of bumps and potholes in the mix. But now with a drainage system that is not able to handle the rain that is puring constantly on Chennai and its residents, well the potholes have become a trap of sorts for the unwary vehicles especially since the water has covered them, it is difficult to know where the potholes are.
To those of you who are not in the know, Chennai is a major metro in India and it is a coastal city. Normally India faces the monsoon period in two phases, the South west monsoon and then after that gets over, the North east monsoon steps in. Their names are based solely on the direction of the Monsoon winds.Anyway, this year the North east monsoon has gotten off to a rocking start. I had written about the incessant rain that we were having of late, well that has now become a constant downpour.

The politicians who are in charge of the Chennai and its suburbs, have not done much for the drainage system and as a result the Cyclone has not even come to Chennai and already most of its arterial roads are flooded. As i write this post, I can hear the winds howling outside literally. The deep depression is currently located 400 kms south west of Chennai in the Bay of Bengal, and is all set to form into the first major Cyclone of this season. Soon it is scheduled to move in a North easterly direction, bringing it right to Chennai. I guess that we must be lucky indeed? More updates to follow soon.
